What a great trip to the museum my little minions had! We had a wonderful three hours to explore, but we couldn't see anywhere near what the museum had to offer! I recommend you go there for a full day to experience this magical place! You can climb on a dinosaur, dig up teeth, run through the mist, drive a sail boat, see lemurs and alpacas, play in a space pod, shoot paper airplanes, make hurricanes, and so much more! Whether you like dinosaurs, animals, space, physics, shadows, building, brains, math, or weather, you can find some amazing adventures at this magical place! The Durham Life and Science Museum is days of fun!
We had a field trip today-My first walking field trip! Thanks to some amazing parent volunteers, we had a wonderful time! Trader Joes' tour was awesome! Back-stage pass to the storage, freezers, stocking areas, world maps, action ideas to help the community, and some free coffee sample for an excited teacher! Thanks so much to Trader Joes for a great experience to show our businesses are run with goods and services, and how a business can take action to help its community!
We also had some fun with our kick-off to our sound unit with an outside sound hunt. We couldn't resist some outside math time while the weather was so gorgeous. So this week, villa 7 has really enjoyed the weather and learning in nature!
Farmington Woods Elementary IB/PYP Magnet School received the Magnet School of Excellence Award! According the the website, Magnet School of Excellence Awards are given to only a select group of magnet schools that have demonstrated the highest level of excellence in all facets of the merit award application. Of course the school had to celebrate this wonderful accomplishment! We worked hard, and our effort paid off! So below are some pictures of the morning celebration after the news when the school got to go a little nutty with music and confetti!
We just finished our economy and government services unit! The kids had to create a business, earn money in the classroom, buy their things from my market to make their good for their business, price and come up with a poster to sell their products, and then sell them at the market! Supply and Demand at its finest! There were so many lesson learned on market day! Then they had to pay business taxes (as well as income taxes from their paycheck). Below are some pictures of our businesses and other fun we've had this past week, including the bad weather day in the cafeteria.
Well tomorrow we go back to school. I am ready to see the kids tomorrow! It seems like a long time since I have seen them. I have enjoyed break throughly though. I caught up on some sleep, many projects, and spend some wonderful time with the family. When we get back, it's time to start middle of the year/end of quarter 2 assessments! Can you believe it?
Here are some pictures of our December together. We had the gift of reading, some fun crafts about Holidays Around the World,. and some good times learning as usual.
